Our Top 5 Reasons We Chose to Homeschool

There are so many wonderful reasons to homeschool, and we all have different things we love about the options homeschooling gives us. But today, I wanted to share our top 5 reasons for why we chose to homeschool our children.

  1. Freedom. Homeschooling gives us the ultimate freedom to teach our children at THEIR pace, to follow THEIR lead, and to allow them to follow their dreams. Each of our children is incredibly different in their interests, in how they learn, in how they best focus on the tasks at hand. I don’t have to worry about them falling behind or getting bored because they need to be challenged.
  2. Adventure. The freedom of homeschooling also gives us the opportunity to go on adventures and vacations any time of the year. We don’t have to worry about getting the kids excused from school, or worry about them missing too many days. We don’t have to worry about the big crowds during summer or spring breaks, because we have the freedom to go whenever we want! Anytime J has a day off on a weekday, we can take that opportunity to go on fun adventures or just go on an outing close by.
  3. Faith. Because we have chosen to homeschool, I have the ability to share my faith and my love for Christ with my children. There are no limitations like there are in a public school setting. If my child is struggling, I can stop and pray with them. If my child needs encouragement, I can find a verse to share with them and pray over them. Nobody can stop me from doing that in my home. And having the chance to teach them the Word within our homeschool… it’s breathtaking.
  4. Health. Anyone who has been in any kind of school setting outside the home (public, charter, private, etc.) knows how often you can pick up sick germs. Let’s be real here… kids are gross! Ha! They forget to wash their hands, they pick their noses, wipe snot on their sleeves. But again, coming back to missing too many days – I don’t have to worry when my kids do get sick. We can take a break from school and get well. I don’t miss work. Kids don’t miss too many days of school. We just cuddle, stock up on elderberry syrup and essential oils, and we enjoy our time together with no worries.
  5. Family. I get to spend all of those “ah-ha” moments with my kids. I get to see their faces light up when something clicks. I get to share in their learning, their accomplishments and watch them become these amazing little humans. I don’t miss anything. We get to spend all of this time as a family and it’s beautiful. Do I get overwhelmed and need a break sometimes?  Of course. Who doesn’t? But I’m so thankful for this chance to spend my days with my babies.
