Faith > Fear during a Pandemic
Right now I am sitting on my bed listening to three of our littles play with trains and blocks, sweet giggles and shouts of joy as they accomplish what they are wanting to build. My fourth (Bubby, our 7 year old) moved to a bedroom downstairs this weekend and is probably looking at a book or playing with his action figures until bedtime. And I am so thankful for their innocence, their absolute naiveté of everything going on in the world they live in. All they know is that we have to stay home, that there’s an illness going around that we don’t want to catch or share with our loved ones. That’s all they needed to know.
I’ve seen so much fear swarming around social media and let me just say this… “God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) In other words…
That’s right. Our faith is GREATER than fear. You’ll see this on my blog… it’s one of those sayings I try to always keep in the back of my mind. I know, it’s easier said than done. I’m 100% guilty of being anxious and fearful over just about everything! But the fact of the matter is that God has us. He is watching over us and no matter what happens, He’s there. He’s steadfast and sturdy, faithful and THE WAYMAKER. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be doing our part in stopping the spread of this invisible enemy making it’s way through our country and the world. But we shouldn’t be fearful or acting out in sheer panic. Be responsible. Be salt and light even if you have to do so from inside the walls of your home. Our churches are finding ways to reach out over social media to share the Gospel and to worship… we have to find a way to do the same in our everyday lives while still maintaining “physical distancing”, because we don’t have to “social distance” in this day and age.
I hope that in some small way you find a little encouragement from this, know that you are not alone and that this won’t be forever. We are all definitely over being in our homes all the time, and we’re ready for our lives to go back to normal. Take this opportunity to spend more time with your spouse and children, finish some of those tasks around your house you can never find time for, and most importantly, dive into your bible and WORSHIP! And remember…. that your FAITH is greater than your fear! God Bless!
