Growing up, I was never interested in history, let alone elections. It was boring, I didn’t understand why I needed to learn about it… if I am being honest, I hated it. It was one of my least favorite subjects all through college. Now, as an adult and a homeschooling mom, I find history fascinating. There’s so much to learn, and I love that I get to learn right along with my kids. When I was given the opportunity to review Home School in the Woods I was so excited, I’ve been eyeing materials on their sites for months but hadn’t made the jump yet. And with this being an election year I though the U.S. Elections Lap-Pak was perfect!

There’s so much to choose from, but today I want to share the U.S. Elections Lap-Pak with you.
A lap-pak, or a lapbook as many people call them, is a hands-on way to help your student research and learn about specific topics. Obviously, this particular lap-pak is about United States Elections, and let me tell you… it is packed full of wonderful information. We completed one lap activity a day, three days a week and after Boogie completed each product she placed them in a plastic envelope to store until we put together her lapbook out of file folders.
When you place an order through Home School in the Woods you can choose a few different formats (depending on the product). For instance, the Timeline Packs are hard copies that you receive (and they are high quality – we have a set with our Mystery of History curriculum). For the U.S. Elections Lap-Pak you can choose between a PDF download or a CD mailed to you. We received the PDF download.
In the download you will have lots of folders, at first I was overwhelmed, but once I figured out how everything was organized it made printing and finding what we needed a breeze! I decided to go ahead and print everything and place it in our school binder so I could grab pages as needed.
You receive a PDF of instructions for how to put your lapbook together (this one looked so complicated, but it was very easy and her instructions are well written), and then you also have a PDF of instructions for how to assemble each individual project. What I also love, is that she includes reading text to go along with this study, you can print it as a booklet and attach to your lapbook, or print it out full paper size (which was my choice to do).
So far, Boogie has learned all about what an election is, the different forms of government, the branches of the government and so much more. She’s thoroughly enjoyed putting each project together, this is right up her alley for learning for sure. I’m excited to continue with this over the next few months, leading up to our 2020 Presidential Election. She and I are both learning so much, more than I ever knew about elections!
